Sussex Tech student named a top youth volunteer
Sussex Tech senior Madison Vogel of Ocean View received an engraved silver medallion March 12 recognizing her as one of Delaware’s top two youth volunteers.
The Prudential Spirit of Community Award honors middle and high school students who make meaningful contributions to their communities through volunteer service.
Madison was recognized for her work over the past seven years collecting money and books for families of children with cancer, following the death of her youngest sister at age 5 from a rare brain tumor.
As a state honoree, Madison will receive $1,000 and an all-expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C for several days of national recognition events.
Created in 1995 by Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals, the Prudential Spirit of Community Award is America’s largest youth recognition program based exclusively on volunteer service.
All middle and high schools in the United States, Girl Scout councils, county 4-H organizations, Red Cross chapters, YMCAs and Points of Light Global Network members were eligible to select a student or member for a local Prudential Spirit of Community Award last November.
Two state honorees – one middle and one high school student – and a select number of finalists from each state and Washington, D.C., were selected based on criteria such as personal initiative, effort, impact and personal growth.
