Sussex Tech’s broadcasting students win national medal
The Broadcast News Production team from Sussex Technical High School won a silver medal during competition at the National SkillsUSA Leadership Conference held June 26-30 in Kansas City, Mo. The team placed second with a score of 95.65 out of a possible 100. Members of the team are Meredith Husar, Haley Cherrix, Natalie Sava and Rebekah Warrington. This is the seventh medal won by students of media broadcasting teacher Gary Conaway in eight years of national competition.
Sussex Tech’s Jeffrey Klabe won ninth in the cabinetmaking competition.
Sussex Tech sent 20 students to the championships that are the showcase for the best career and technical students in the nation. Contests begin locally and continue through the state and national levels. There are more than 6,000 contestants in 94 events. The philosophy of the championships is to reward students for excellence, to involve industry in directly evaluating student performance and to keep training relevant to employers’ needs.
Other Sussex Tech students participating in the national championships were Ashton Tomlinson, Kira Lyle, Sydney Buss, Kaitlin Holland, Yessenia Sanchez-Prieto, Krystin Gibson, Ryan Benjamin, Shawn O’Neal, Stephen Mervine, Cameron Jackson, Catherine Minton, Paige Robinson, Michael Young, Sam Hete and Vincent Borgesi.
