Tunnel to Towers raises funds for first responders and law enforcement

Sparacino wins annual event that honors Stephen Siller
November 21, 2024

The Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers 3.43-mile run held Nov. 16 at Cape Henlopen State Park is all about remembering the sacrifices made by first responders and those in law enforcement going back to Sept. 11, 2001.

A total of 196 runners and walkers, including firefighters in full gear, completed the unusual distance.

Stephen Stiller ran carrying 60 pounds of equipment from Brooklyn Battery Tunnel to the Twin Towers on 9/11, a distance of 3.43 miles, to assist emergency services personnel. Just 35, he lost his life during the tragic events of that day.

Most of the runners took their time, as all times were recorded. Matt Sparacino was the first to complete the out-and-back course in 20:21. Four members of the Jerman family of Ellendale closed out the event in 1:17.
