UPDATE: Teen killed in Ellendale shooting
A 17-year-old girl died June 9 following a shooting near the Ellendale Community Center.
The shooting happened at 4:30 p.m. when several people began fighting in the 12000 block of North Old State Road, police said, and someone pulled out a gun and fired into the crowd. The girl, identified on June 17 as Ahniya Coverdale, was shot and taken by ambulance to an area hospital where she died. Her name was originally withheld until her family was notified. A 19-year-old man later went to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the leg and was treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.
