UUSD to screen ‘Kiss the Ground’ documentary Oct. 8
As part of Peace Week Delaware, the Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will present the documentary “Kiss the Ground” at 6:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 8, via Zoom.
After the film, a discussion will be held with local members of Socially Responsible Agriculture Project; Carrie Balkcom, executive director of the American Grassfed Association; and Greg Gunthorp, president of Gunthorp Farms.
“Kiss the Ground” is a documentary that takes a close look at Earth’s most powerful unsung hero, its soil. It explores key soil health and regenerative agricultural principles, and features interviews with a wide range of experts. The film uses creative graphics and visuals, along with striking NASA and NOAA footage, and illustrates how many of humankind’s most pressing climate and environmental problems can be solved by drawing down atmospheric carbon.
The film is about a revolutionary group of activists, scientists, farmers and politicians who banded together in the global movement of regenerative agriculture to help balance the climate, rebuild and maintain topsoil, replenish the Earth’s vast water supplies and feed the world.
Susan Goekler, co-chair of UUSD’s Social & Environmental Justice Committee, said, “As part of Peace Week Delaware 2021, UUSD is presenting this film and discussion because peace includes being at peace with the Earth, our mother.”
