Virginia A. Parson, loving wife, mother

Virginia A. Parson, 84, of Lewes passed away Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2019, at Beebe Healthcare, Lewes.  She was born Sept. 8, 1934, in Lansdowne, Pa., daughter of the late Samuel J. and Virginia M. Parker.

Mrs. Parson, known to everyone as Ginny, graduated from Lansdowne High School. She then received her bachelor of arts from the University of the Arts in Philadelphia, Pa. Following college, she started a lifelong career as an educator, teaching in Upper Darby and Downingtown, Pa., before moving to southern Delaware and teaching at The Jefferson School in Georgetown, retiring after a total of more than 40 years.

Ginny was a former member of the Hopewell United Methodist Church in Downingtown, and for the past 22 years, Conley’s United Methodist Church in Lewes. In her spare time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, baking and cooking. She had an amazing talent for all things arts and crafts. Ginny loved nature, including her many cats, and cherished spending time with her family. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend who will be greatly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

Ginny is survived by her devoted husband of 45 years, Charles D. Parson of Lewes; five loving children: Jim Smailer and his wife Kate of Boulder, Colo., Tom Smailer and his wife Debbie of Downingtown, Steve Smailer and his wife Laurie of Rehoboth Beach, Michael Parson of Bear and Donna Parson of Parkesburg, Pa.; 10 adoring grandchildren: Kristine, Matthew, Stevie, Nick, Luke, Josh, Jacob, Lyndsey, Josie, and Ryan; two great-grandchildren, Hunter and Everly; one brother, Sam Parker and his wife Barrie of Media, Pa.; and her five beloved cats: Ben, Bill, Toby, Jazzy and Momma-Cat.

A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, Feb. 16, at 11 a.m., at Conley’s United Methodist Church, 33106 Jolyns Way, Lewes, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Arrangements are being handled by Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, Lewes.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Parson's name to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
