Cape hockey rattled the Dover cage three times in the first three minutes of the game Oct. 18 at Champions Stadium, and it was all over except the tabulations.
The Vikings went full-bore buzzsaw and defeated the Senators 12-0 behind multiple-goal performances from Grace Wiggins with five, Devon DeGregory with three, Lulu Rishko with two and single goals by Abby Marsh and Mackinzie Brown.
Cape’s most prolific up-and-down player, Hannah Maney, had three assists in the first half, and the Vikings led 7-0 at the intermission. Other assist makers were Addy Basile with three and Lexi Nowakowski, Rishko, Wiggins and Macy Steinwedel with one each.
Ten goals were scored off an assist. The last two goals were penalty strokes by Wiggins at 1:18 and DeGregory with 14 seconds left.
The Vikings’ record improved to 11-1, with all wins coming by shutout.
Cape outshot the Senators 35-3, with a 22-4 advantage in penalty corners.
Morgan Newcomb had three saves for Cape. Savannah Strauss tallied 22 saves, while Iyana Dixon had three for the Senators.
Blue chair quips - Cape won the JV game 7-0 behind three goals from Lucy Mongeluzo, two from Katie Cerf and single goals from Alexandra Miller and Lexi Silicato. Cape had a 21-1 shot advantage. Izzy Mekulski got the win in goal. Archmere beat Tatnall 1-0, knocking the Hornets from the ranks of the undefeated. Padua surprised Tower Hill 1-0 after the Pandas fell to Cape 8-0. Sussex Academy continued its impressive season beating Lake Forest 3-0. Caesar Rodney beat Polytech 2-1; both teams will play at Cape next week. Smyrna rolled over Sussex Tech 8-1. The Eagles were scheduled to host Delmar Thursday, Oct. 20, in one of the best matchups of the late season. Milford trailed Sussex Central 1-0 at the half, but came back to win 3-1.
