William Gaines II, retired bus driver

William Douglas Gaines II, 67,  of Lewes passed away Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Bayhealth Milford Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Philadelphia, Pa., the son of the late William D. Gaines and Betty and John Kelly. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was a bus driver for Pinkett Tours in Denton, Md., for seven years, retiring in 1988.  He was a member of the Hamm Radio Club (Sara), Local Union 542.  In 1984, he was Citizen of the Year in Milton.  He always loved being around people.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Geraldine Fly Gaines; children, Deborah Gaines Wilson and her husband Harrison of Oklahoma, William Gaines III of Rehoboth, John Gaines and his wife Christine of Pennsylvania and Edward Gaines of Lewes; four brothers, Jack Kelly, Jim Kelly and his wife Sara, Bob Kelly and his wife Gloria and Kurt Kelly, all of Pennsylvania; mother-in-law, Betty Fly of Pennsylvania; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m., Monday, Aug. 1, in the chapel of Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton.
