William Lewis, Jr., follower of Jesus
William (Bill) Lewis Jr., 87, of Lewes passed away peacefully into the arms of Jesus Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2018, his loving wife of 66 years by his side.
Bill graduated from Eddystone High School, Eddystone, Pa., in 1949, where he was a gifted athlete. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force from 1951-55, a Korean War veteran. He worked as a pipe fitter at DuPont Chestnut Run in Wilmington for 35 years. Bill was also a lifetime member of the Masonic Lodge, the Elks Lodge and the American Legion.
Bill first and foremost was a follower of Jesus. He was a simple, humorous, yet humble man, who enjoyed more than ever to spend time with his family. One of his greatest joys in life was being Pop Pop to his seven grandchildren. He often spoke of how grateful he felt that the Lord allowed him to live long enough to see his grandchildren graduate from college, and knowing that one of his grandsons was to be married soon brought him great joy. He was the most advid and passionate Eagles fan, and rooted for the other Philadelphia teams throughout the years. His hobbies included fishing, fishing and fishing; especially with his sons! He was an amazing dart player and enjoyed spending time over the years at the senior centers in which they were members in both Delaware and Florida. He loved to dance; play board games and cards, horseshoes, and working outdoors. He was quite the handyman and enjoyed tinkering around in his garage.
He'd do anything for anyone, if someone needed help. He would give of his time, advice, finances, prayer, or whatever was needed. Bill had many friends over the years; many of whom he considered family.
Bill is survived by his loving and devoted wife Louise (Weaver) Lewis of Lewes; his three sons, 1 SG William Lewis, (USA, Retired) of Rockledge, Fla., Dale (DeAnne) Lewis of Bristow, Va., and Brian (Kimberly) Lewis of Wilmington. His seven grandchildren are William and Nathaniel Lewis of Orlando, Fla., Brian Lewis of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Kristina Lewis of Wilmington, Emma Lewis of New York City, Wesley Lewis of San Diego, Calif., and Brianna Lewis of Cornwall, N.Y. He is also survived by his loving daughters-in-law, Denise Lewis of Maitland, Fla., and Grace Lewis of Cornwall.
He was preceded in death by his father, William Lewis Sr.; his mother Mary (Lilly) Lewis; his brother Thomas Green; and his sisters, Mildred (Green) Webb and Doris (Lewis) Rhoades.
The memorial service will be held Friday, Nov. 16, beginning promptly at 1 p.m., at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriots Way, Millsboro; committal immediately following. A luncheon to follow at the clubhouse in Angola by the Bay, Lewes, for family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Bill's memory to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, https://donate.lls.org.
