CAMP Rehoboth will host a weekend of free events as part of Women’s Fest, a multi-day celebration being held from Thursday to Sunday, April 10 to 13, in Rehoboth Beach. The event is a spring tradition that offers entertainment, sports, music, dancing, comedy, education and fun for women, both trans and cis, nonbinary folks and those who live on the spectrum of the feminine spirit.
Free sessions will be offered for those wanting to try sound therapy, a deeply relaxing experience that envelops participants in soothing sound waves from instruments like singing bowls and gongs, fostering a sense of calm, rejuvenation and overall well-being. Anna Mae, a guided breath meditation and reiki practitioner, will lead sessions from 9 to 10 a.m., Friday and Saturday, April 11 and 12, at the Atlantic Sands Hotel and Conference Center, 101 N. Boardwalk.
Free and confidential HIV and syphilis testing will be offered at CAMP Rehoboth from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 11, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 12.
A pop-up Sapphic Bookstore will be open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., April 11, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., April 12, at the Atlantic Sands. The event will be run by the Sapphic Literary Collection, a nonprofit co-op of authors across various publishers and genres who sell books directly to readers while increasing the awareness of sapphic literature along the way. Sixteen authors will participate, including several award winners such as local favorite Fay Jacobs, who has written a series of books featuring the humorous side of living in the Cape Region community and “aging gracelessly.”
First up on the Fest speaker series is Coke Farmer, former kinesiology department director for undergraduate programs at the University of Maryland, College Park, where she completed her PhD in exercise physiology. She has worked with populations from cardiac patients to Olympic athletes, but her heart has always belonged to helping women. Participants will have fun while learning and trying strategies to improve cardiovascular, muscular and bone health, regardless of age or fitness level. This free session will be held from 2 to 3 p.m., April 11, at the Atlantic Sands.
Writer and comedian Fay Jacobs will speak from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., April 11, on the topic of writing both comedy and memoir, which for her are often similar.
The Women’s Fest Expo will take place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, April 12, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, 229 Rehoboth Ave. Vendors will be offering dozens of products and services, including original art and one-of-a-kind crafts. Products to be featured are paintings, jewelry, apparel, wood carvings, stained glass, bath and body care items, photographs, and epoxy resin works.
Some Women’s Fest events have limited seating, which will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Those who have accessibility needs should email accessibility@camprehoboth.org.
