Women’s pro tour stops at Sea Colony

Danielle Rose Collins wins in straight sets
June 13, 2017

There can be only one … and her name is Danielle Rose Collins. Top-seeded Collins bested former college teammate Lauren Embree 6-1, 6-0 June 11 to claim the seventh singles championship in the ResortQuest Pro Women’s Open at Sea Colony - a $25,000 USTA Pro Circuit clay court event held at the Bethany Beach-area resort from June 4 to 11.

Collins’ crown came with a check for $3,919, 50 ranking points and an Alex & Ani bracelet. Entering the tournament at world No. 194, Collins dropped just 19 games in five singles matches on her way to the tournament title. Embree’s runner-up finish earned her $2,091 and 30 points, as well as a bracelet of her own.

This singles and doubles tournament attracted nationally and internationally ranked women’s tennis players to the resort’s clay courts in search of higher world rankings and a share of the event’s $25,000 in prize money.
