Half Full, Patty's, yoga and sun-soaked Starlight

Sunday 28 June - Writing in the remains of a gorgeous, sun-filled day

A thin but solid line of rain clouds swept across Sussex before dawn this morning - a final reminder of Saturday's storms.  The good news: that final line of showers ushered in a lower-humidity day stroked with yellow light and lifted the spirits of residents and visitors.

In downtown Lewes, final touches are being applied to the new Half Full on Second Street in anticipation of an opening this week.  Over on Market Street, where Half Full has vacated its original home in the Lowe building, the shingle front awaits a new sign. Word on the street is that the owners of Patty's in Georgetown will soon be opening a breakfast and lunch restaurant in the former Half Full space.  Stay tuned to the Cape Gazette for more details.

Across the canal at Fisherman's Wharf, beneath the wheeling sea gulls and the steady rising and falling of the tides, a new vessel has joined the head boat fleet.  Capt. Dale Parsons said the 65-foot Starlight, her blue markings standing out among the red-striped colors of the rest of the Fisherman's Wharf fleet, came across the mouth of Delaware Bay from Cape May.

"We've been doing some trading," said Parsons.  "Now we have Starlight, and our Celebration vessel will soon be heading out to her new home over near Washington D.C."

When Thelma Dale headed out the canal this morning for a Sunday fishing trip, a couple blasts on the horn from her captain brought appreciative waves from a group of 30, stretching their bodies in the weekly Yoga In The Park session. Namaste Dimitra!

The tide was high, Thelma Dale was riding high, and everyone's spirits were high, floating in the late June sunshine.

Blogger's Note: For those who read the first iteration of this blog posted Sunday evening, please forgive the references to Striper Bites when I really meant to write Half Full.  As my buddy Mike says, I was all muxed up.  I had been talking to Matt DiSabatino earlier in the day and Matt has an interest in both restaurants. Plus, at the time I was writing, twilight had set in, bats were flying, a chortling green heron was settling into his roost in the thin branches at the top of the crepe myrtles and what seemed clearer when the sun was shining became less distinct in the gray before night. But, the Orioles of Baltimore took two from the Indians of Cleveland, swept the series, and moved into first place by half a game in the American League East. So, as you can discern, with writing a blog and listening to the game, my mind was only half full of attention to the details.
