Surf Shanty: as cool as an orangecicle

Surf Shanty. Orange like a storm-coming sunrise. Tin roof rippling like a light-breeze bay in the lee. Cool stuff inside. Sand Off, striped towels, boards and caps, sand shovels, Frisbees and footballs. Sun screen. Mini Honda motorcycles for rent. They do about 30.

Conversation:

"Graduation speech time of the year. Heard one of the old ones from back in the early 90s. Bunch of bullet points. First one: wear sunscreen. How cool is that? He was right on."

"That was Kurt Vonnegut- the writer."

Reflection:

Kurt Vonnegut's last major essay topic: automobile as the downfall of civilization. Let's prove him wrong. Get outside. Get active!

History:

Surf Shanty occupies the building where Bobby Hall - strong as an ox - cut hair for many years. A few blocks in to Lewes on Kings Highway, Mae Hall ran a small snack bar style restaurant popular for lunch and breakfast. Not sure if Mae and Bobby are related, or Rupert and Grace and A.Q. I probably knew at one time.

Bob Dylan song: My Back Pages: "I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."

Surf Shanty the entrepreneurial inspiration of Aaron Dunphy (LowDigitTags.com), Lance Manlove (builder), and Rhett Ruggierio (government relations).  Colorful and fun beach project. Children weighed in too. Games, Front yard is a beach. Test those beach chairs. Good place to hang out.

Location:

Surf Shanty is located on Kings Highway on the right, headed out of Lewes, across from the entrance to Bay Breeze and Jefferson Apartments.

You can't miss the bright orange building. Nice hip addition, lots of character, for the active outdoor scene of Lewes.
