Lester B. Moore, worked at state park until 90

Lester B. Moore, 98, of Lewes, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, March 2, 2016. He was born Sunday, Dec. 16, 1917, in Mount Union, Pa., son of the late Miles W. and Hazel (Varner) Moore.

Mr. Moore proudly served in the Army as a private during World War II. He worked as a machinist at American Instrument Company for 11 years. After that he worked for the Department of the Navy in Carderock, Md., as an engineering technician for 29 years, retiring in 1980. At the same time he kept himself busy working nights and weekends at Safeway for 21 years. Upon retiring and moving to Delaware he started yet another 25-year career with the Delaware State Parks until he was 90 years old.

Mr. Moore was a member of American Legion Post 28, and he was a volunteer fireman in Silver Spring and Kensington, Md. He loved crabbing, fishing and yardwork. He was also in a league for duck pin bowling which he enjoyed. Mr. Moore was gifted with perfect pitch. He could pick up any instrument and play it perfectly. He was a typical Irishman, tending to be very outgoing, and he told great stories and jokes. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend who will be missed by all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Moore was preceded in death by his loving wife of 70 years, Naomi Davis Moore, in 2010; and his brother, Clement Moore. He is survived by his children: Gary B. Moore and his wife Theresa, and Timothy A. Moore and his wife Donna, all of Ijamsville, Md., Criquette Norris and her husband Mike of Sewell, N.J., and Patrick M. Moore and his wife Stephanie of Millville; his grandchildren: Kelley Robison and her husband Joe, Casey Cirner and her husband Adam, Kimberly Dow and her husband James, Chrissy Moore and her wife Vanessa Johnson, Tim Norris and his wife Trina, Stephanie Steinbeck and her husband John, Renee and Bethany Moore; and his great-grandchildren: Haven and Grayson Norris, John and Jake Steinbeck, Haley Cirner and Alex Robison.

Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, March 8, at 11 a.m., at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes, where friends may call beginning at 10 a.m. Chapel Committal with military honors will follow the services at 1 p.m., at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Millsboro.
