Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation announces spring teacher grants

March 29, 2016

Cape Henlopen Educational Foundation announced 11 grants totaling $6,549 to help Cape Henlopen School District teachers provide innovative programs and learning resources for their students.

The grants will support a variety of kindergarten through 12th-grade initiatives, including a middle school theater production of "Seussical," an overnight science trip to Cape Henlopen State Park, digital media for video production students, a middle school choir competition, a fifth-grade science fair, a Junior Achievement field trip and partial funding for a trip to see a production of "The Crucible" in New York City.

The grants are a central focus of CHEF’s efforts to provide financial support for unfunded activities which inspire learning. Since 2006, the nonprofit CHEF has funded over 175 teacher grant requests, as well as anti-bullying and homelessness programs, STEM-focused projects, performing arts scholarships and college tours, totaling over $150,000 in financial aid to Cape district schools.

Grant requests are evaluated by a panel of educators and community members chaired by CHSD reading specialist and CHEF board member Cathy Miller. Recommendations are submitted to the CHEF board for approval.

“We appreciate the support of our community donors - businesses, individuals and foundations - who have helped us provide an increased level of funding for teacher grants,” said CHEF President Rick Grier-Reynolds. “Every dollar contributed goes directly to creating new learning opportunities for Cape students at all age levels.”
