Sussex Academy students support Clothing Our Kids
A group of 16 Sussex Academy students who live in Hawkseye development in Lewes organized and planned the Second Annual Hawkseye 5K Run/Walk to raise awareness and support for Clothing Our Kids. As part of their required community service hours, their plan was to organize a 5K, collect gently worn children's clothing and have a bake sale to raise money for new shoes, socks and underwear for less fortunate children in the community.
Students began planning the race last November. In December, they collected over 30 bags of gently worn fall and winter children's clothing from Hawkseye neighbors.
While the race was cancelled due to inclement weather March 20, the students continued with their clothing drive and bake sale. They raised over $2,200 in cash and collected over 60 bags of children's clothing for Clothing Our Kids.
The Clothing Our Kids mission is to improve the lives of at-risk elementary school children by providing them with essential school clothing. Clothing Our Kids has given out over 10,000 items of clothing this school year to 1,700 kids in dire need. For more information, go to www.clothingourkids.org.
