Virginia Vann, loved flowers

April 26, 2016

Virginia Vann, 76, of Millsboro passed away at Atlantic Shores Nursing & Rehabilitation Center Friday, April 22, 2016. She was born Sept. 9, 1939, in Showell, Md., to the late Frank and Olivia Jacob Sturgis. She married Willie Vann, who preceded her in 1967.

From then on she was a homemaker and dedicated her life to Christian service, and to serving others. She was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God of Millsboro for over 30 years. She was known far and wide as a servant to those in need, a friend to anyone needing help, and was committed to a lifelong self-appointed mission of kindness and compassion. For over 25 years, she went to the nursing home every day to encourage residents, assist them and spread cheer. In addition, while her health permitted, she attended almost every funeral in her community, to show support to families and encourage mourners. She was often spotted with shopping carts piled with things she bought for others in need. She was spotted a mile off in her tangerine-colored car, always smiling big and pleasant. She dressed with style and grace. She was an Ambassador of Peace for the Kingdom of God. She loved collectibles, and flowers were her passion.

She is survived by eight children: Wayne Vann and his wife Toni of Federalsburg, Md.; Peggy Vann and husband Charles Marshall of Roxana; Deborah Bailey and husband Barry of Milford; Larry Vann and wife Navada of Seaford; Sharon Vann of Salisbury, Md.; Fred Vann and wife Nichole of Temecula, Calif.; Leslie Vann of Middletown; and an adopted son: Theodore Chesson. She was preceded by a daughter, Brenda Vann in 1988. She was also preceded by several brothers and sisters: Franklin; Edward; Edith; Pauline; Clara Mae; Evelyn; Roosevelt; Viola; Monroe; Ernest; Coleman; and Kitney. She has 12 grandchildren, and 14 great-grandchildren along with a host of extended family members and many, many, many friends! A funeral service and Celebration of Her Life will be held at Watson Funeral Home, 211 S. Washington St. Millsboro, Saturday, April 30, where friends may call from 10 a.m. till noon, and the service will begin at noon, with Overseer Febus Hunter officiating. Interment will follow at Curtis UMC Cemetery in Bishopville, Md. Due to her passion for flowers, floral tributes are welcome.
