Join speaker Jeffrey M. Fried, Beebe Healthcare president & CEO, for a discussion of "Brotherhood & Determination: 100 Years of Beebe Healthcare," Friday, May 20. At 6 p.m., enjoy the opening of an exhibit which will celebrate the history and legacy of Beebe Heathcare. At 7 p.m., speaker Fried will present.
The exhibit and presentation will be held at The Lewes Historical Society's main campus, 110 Shipcarpenter St., Lewes. In the case of inclement weather, the presentation will be held at Saint Peter's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, 211 Mulberry St., Lewes.
The exhibit in the Ellegood House at the Lewes Historical Society’s main campus will be available through Oct. 3, and will be open Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. It demonstrates the medical history of Lewes, both before and after Beebe Heathcare. Patrons will learn about contributing personalities, medical equipment, and what it took for the Beebe brothers to begin their legacy.
Items in the exhibit come from both private collections and from Beebe, including textiles such as Richard Beebe’s World War I uniform, medical school graduation gowns, a Gray Lady uniform from World War II, and nurses’ uniforms from throughout the years. Also included is a powder horn from 1716, used by Peter Marsh, an early physician in Lewes.
The Lewes Historical Society thanks those who contributed to the exhibit: the many employees at Beebe Healthcare, especially Lynn Wilkins, Nina Hazzard, and Jean Winstead; The Lewes Historical Society’s Mike DiPaolo, Ashlee Anderson, John McGovern, and the Rusty Nail Gang; and exhibit designer Elaine Faye.
Admission to the exhibit and presentation is free and no reservations are required. For more information, call the Lewes Historical Society at 302-645-7670.
