The state opened the Junction and Breakwater Trail a day earlier than expected. That was good news for the hundreds of walkers and cyclists who took to the trail Friday, July 15, despite the heat.
The trail will be open for the weekend and then closed again during the week next week for further improvements. The fine material put down over the surface has smoothed the trail considerably between Hebron Road and the Holland Glade Bridge. The biggest improvement is yet to come, hopefully this coming week. The section of the trail in most need of rehab is north of the Holland Glade Bridge where rocks the size of tennis balls stick through the surface and rattle the teeth of riders on all manner of bicycles. The trail continues to be one of the most enjoyed recreational features in our area and these improvements are most appreciated.
