Cast for A Cure donates $3,180 to Tunnell Cancer Center

September 1, 2016

Cast for A Cure donated $3,180 to Beebe Healthcare to benefit the Tunnell Cancer Center Patient Special Needs Fund. The money was raised at the third annual Cast For A Cure – 2016 Team Surf Fishing Tournament this past June that took place near the Indian River Inlet. The event was sponsored by the Delaware Fisherwomen and Old Inlet Bait and Tackle.

Brandy Timmons presented the check to Cherrie Rich, executive director of Oncology Services at Beebe Healthcare, and to Judy Aliquo, president and CEO of Beebe Medical Foundation. "I was inspired to organize a tournament after losing my grandfather," Timmons said. "The money was donated in honor of everyone who has lost or survived their battle with cancer. Everyone who participated in the tournament was honoring a loved one."

Other sponsors included Salt Life Optics, OTW, Delaware Mobile Surf Fishermen, Tsunami and Hi Seas. A total of 15 surf fishing teams participated in this year's event, and Timmons expects more to participate next year.
