Delaware Technical Community College, The Delaware Manufacturing Extension Partnership and the Delaware Manufacturing Association celebrated Gov. Jack Markell's proclamation of Delaware Manufacturing Week through Oct. 7, which coincides with National Manufacturing Day Oct. 7. The weeklong celebration of manufacturing in Delaware was created to recognize the powerful and positive impact of manufacturing on Delaware's economy.
Markell issued the proclamation Oct. 3. It says, “By working together with education, manufacturers will begin to address the skilled-labor shortage they face, connect with future generations, build the next generation of skilled manufacturing employees, take charge of the public image of manufacturing and ensure the ongoing prosperity of manufacturing."
"Delaware Tech is proud to work with the DMA and other partners to educate the next generation of modern manufacturing workers in Delaware – from high school students to adult learners. The Advanced Manufacturing Pathways Program recently won a national award, reinforcing the quality and innovation of these economic development initiatives," said Dr. Mark T. Brainard, president of Delaware Tech.
DEMEP and DMA organized tours for high school and college students at several manufacturers statewide during the week to provide information about the many career opportunities open to Delaware high school students and the value of a technical education. Students from middle schools, high schools and colleges as well as guests were matched with manufacturers for these tours, which showcase the modern, high-tech workspaces and the value manufacturers bring to the Delaware economy and local communities. These manufacturers include Aloft AeroArchitects in Georgetown and Beracah Homes in Greenwood.
