David Fleming of Delaware Community Foundation named Fundraising Professional of the Year

November 2, 2016

The Delaware Community Foundation announced that David Fleming, senior vice president for philanthropic services, has been selected as the Fundraising Professional of the Year by the board of the Association of Fundraising Professionals Brandywine Chapter. Fleming will be recognized at Philanthropy Day Tuesday, Nov. 15.

Before joining the foundation in 2012, Fleming was the CEO of new and historic theaters around the country, starting with the Grand Opera House in Wilmington from 1978-1992. Some 20 years after leaving Delaware, Fleming returned to assist the Grand Opera House with its development efforts.

"David is an inspiration to those around him," DCF President and CEO Stuart Comstock-Gay said. "He is professional and graceful in his work to help people achieve their charitable goals. Even more important, his positive attitude and energy are integral in fostering long-term relationships with colleagues, clients and organizations."

"It's an honor to be selected for this award," Fleming said. "I love helping people give their money to help improve different aspects of quality of life in Delaware. Whether the donor is passionate about the arts or education or the environment or something else entirely, they are helping make Delaware a better place by supporting causes and organizations they care about."

The mission of the Delaware Community Foundation is to build a shared vision for Delaware, grounded in knowledge, inspired by the common good and advanced through philanthropy. As a facilitator, information resource and manager of charitable funds, the foundation helps communities and philanthropists focus charitable resources for the greatest community benefit statewide.
