Community Resource Center opens in Rehoboth

June 1, 2011

The Lewes Rehoboth Association of Churches has teamed with Faith United Methodist Church to open the Community Resource Center.

The center provides financial assistance to locals from the Rehoboth Beach, Lewes and Milton vicinities and hosts workshops to educate people about acquiring employment and applying for other programs.

A grand opening ceremony was held May 18 at the building on Oyster House Road off northbound Route 1 in Rehoboth, directly across from the Bay Vista Road intersection. The Epworth United Methodist Church's choir serenaded a packed house that included politicians, donors, members of the local religious community and others.

The center has been bustling since its quiet opening April 4, said project coordinator Bennett Connelly of Saint Peter's Church. "We served 80 people in the first month," Connelly announced to the crowd. "This included several homeless people, a disabled veteran and a mother who has five children."

More than 40 volunteers take turns as staffers. "We started with one volunteer per day and we're already up to three per day," Connelly said.

The Community Resource Center is open Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. For more information, call the center at 302-227-1340 or Wallace Johnson at 302-227-1340.
