Scholarship applications due to Delaware Community Foundation March 15

High school students throughout Delaware are invited to apply for scholarships available through the Delaware Community Foundation by the deadline of Thursday, March 15. While many scholarships are open to students throughout Delaware, some will be awarded only to Sussex County students.

Last year, the foundation awarded more than 300 scholarships totaling over $340,000 to assist individuals in pursuing higher education. To apply for most scholarships by completing a single online application, available on the new DCF platform, students may go to www.delcf.academicworks.com. On the website, students can review all criteria and award amounts before beginning the application process. Also, the DCF Scholarship Compendium is available at delcf.org/scholarships.

The online application system guides applicants through a series of questions to determine which scholarships they may be eligible for. Students are automatically considered for every scholarship for which they meet the minimum criteria. There is no cap on the number of scholarships or the amount students may receive. Funding from many of the scholarships may be applied to the costs of textbooks and fees, in addition to tuition. Some are one-time awards, and others are renewable.

Following is a list of scholarships available to students in all Sussex County school districts. Additional criteria may apply. Students also should review all scholarships for statewide opportunities.

• Thurman G. and Hilda McCabe Adams Family Scholarship – any Sussex County high school graduate pursuing a career in agriculture or a green energy-related field
• Janosik Family Scholarship – any Sussex County high school graduate who demonstrated citizenship, work ethic and service to the community
• J.D. O'Connor Scholarship – any Sussex County high school graduate seeking need-based assistance
• Sussex Foundation Scholarship – any Sussex County high school graduate who completed eighth grade at Sussex Academy of Arts & Sciences, seeking need-based assistance.

Scholarships available only to Cape Henlopen School District students are: Cape Henlopen Taxpayers for Fair Elections Scholarship – Cape Henlopen High School graduate demonstrating work ethic and school citizenship; George & Jeannette M. Carey Scholarship – CHHS graduate pursuing agriculture or education; Cloutier-Valenti Legacy Scholarship – CHHS graduate who demonstrated involvement in school and community needs; George H. Henry Award – CHHS graduate pursuing an education degree in Delaware; Geneva Pepper Morris Memorial Scholarship – CHHS graduate pursuing a business degree; and John M. Roca Memorial Scholarship – CHHS graduate pursuing a degree in agriculture, pre-veterinary medicine, art or a related field.

Scholarships available only to Indian River School District students are: Atlantis Scholarship Fund for Excellence – Indian River High School graduate going to the University of Delaware in any field of study; John A. Botto Memorial Scholarship – Sussex Central High School graduate seeking need-based assistance; and Chris Cordrey Student Athletic Scholarship – Sussex Central High School graduate who lettered in at least one sport.
