Two kayakers rescued from Rehoboth Bay
Rehoboth Beach fire officials say two people were rescued from Rehoboth Bay Sept. 8 after they fell out of their kayak. Four rescue boats searched the bay under poor conditions for the missing kayakers, said Warren Jones, spokesman for Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Company.
A man and a woman were pulled from the water and then taken to Pier Point Marina in Dewey Beach. They were released after declining medical treatment, Jones said.
The couple had launched their kayak from Tower Road and were offshore when their kayak capsized. Although in the water, Jones said, they were still able to use their phone and contact 911 about their situation.
Visibility was poor when rescue boats from Rehoboth Beach Volunteer Fire Co., Bethany Beach, Indian River and the U.S. Coast Guard arrived, and a poor cellphone connection made finding the couple difficult, Jones said. “The line kept going in and out,” he said.
The couple was found in the bay west of Tower Road, he said.
