Claude A. Hurd, graphic designer

Claude A. Hurd, 80, of Milton, passed away suddenly Monday, Oct. 17, 2011, at Beebe Medical Center in Lewes. He was born in Pittsburgh, Pa., Sept. 10, 1931, son of the late Claude J. and Mary Veronica (Macko) Hurd. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Dorothy C. Hurd (2006) and his son, Michael Hurd (2008).

Mr. Hurd was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon Technical School in Pittsburgh, and entered the Army during the Korean Conflict from 1952-54.

Mr. Hurd was the owner of his own graphic design studio in Armonk, N.Y. and designed for Nestles, General Foods, Pepsi, Dansk and other companies while living in Stephentown, N.Y.

Mr. Hurd moved to the Milton area 16 years ago. In addition to graphic design, Mr. Hurd was an artist, avid photographer, loved downhill skiing, playing the slots and traveling. He will be sorely missed by his family, friends and all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of five years, Victoria "Vickie" (Lari) Hurd of Milton; his adopted daughter, Kim Hobbs and her husband J.R. of Princess Anne, Md.; two sons, Mark and Daniel Hurd; two brothers: Donald Hurd and his wife Rusty and their daughter Kim Bamberger and her husband Scott of Warwick, N.Y.; and Paul Hurd and his wife Barbara; four sisters: Mary Nelligan, Zorah Hurd, Barbara Fiala and her husband Michael and Cathy Sweeney and her husband Michael; many, many nieces and nephews and their families; and his beloved dog, Poppy's Girl, Luci.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 20, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 6 p.m.
