Dover High has a talented football team featuring a nightmare at running back in senior Javon Peace.
The Senators rode the Peace Train to a 56-0 domination of Cape Sept. 27 at Legends Stadium, as Peace scored five touchdowns. Peace’s last two touchdowns were a 98-yard run and a 98-yard kickoff return to open the second half.
“Jaden Davis was a warrior for us, just running hard on the inside,” said Cape coach J.D. Maull. “He easily had over 100 yards and then turned around and played defense. He is old school, just keeps that pace and never complains.”
Cape lost players during the game, including Damian McFeaters, Kevin Williams and Merek Harrigan-Ferro.
Lucas Ruppert and DJ Johnson missed the game due to injury.
“Our youth showed in that game against a very talented team,” Maull said. “But our offensive line did a good job; our backs were getting room to run.”
Dover dropped its first two games of the season, losing at Hodgson 41-14 and at Salesianum 42-20.
Salesianum lost at Smyrna Sept. 27 18-10.
Cape will host Delaware Military Academy Friday, Oct. 5, for Homecoming. DMA is 3-1, with a 26-17 loss to Milford, a team Cape beat 28-14. Last season, DMA was 7-3, then lost in the first round of the Division II state tournament to Wilmington Friends 32-29.
The 1979 state championship team of coach Jim Alderman was honored at halftime of the Dover game. More than 20 players attended along with three coaches. They were all introduced. A social was held in the school library before the game, where the players did a full-screen video chat with coach Alderman, who stayed back in Florida receiving cancer treatments.
