Harry K Foundation holds 7th Annual Christmas Ball

The Harry K Foundation held its 7th Annual Christmas Ball Dec. 14 at the Rehoboth Beach Country Club. This popular event supports the Harry K Foundation’s H4 initiative, Help Harry Halt Hunger. The event featured a large silent auction, a live auction, a raffle, fine dining, music and dancing.

Funds raised by the Harry K Foundation are dispersed through the Food Bank of Delaware to support school backpack programs and food pantries throughout the state. The Harry K Foundation works closely with the food bank, staying in constant contact, communicating and coordinating where and when and to whom the trust benefits the most.

Through a committee of carefully selected community leaders and knowledgeable experts, the hope and goal is to appropriate enough funding to meet the nutritional needs of children in Delaware.

Harry K speaksto gathered supporters, thanking them for their support. He mentioned all of his sponsors and brought up the entire foundation board to be recognized.

Food Bank Delaware President and CEO Patricia Beebe speaks at the event, saying,”What the Food Bank can offer is the infrastructure, the logistics, we offer the warehouse, we offer the food, the ability to get it to places. What Harry offers is the passion.”

Delaware First Lady Tracey Quillen Carney says, “On a practical level nothing else we work to do to improve schools or strengthen communities , none of it will matter if there is not enough decent food on the table. On the emotional moral level childhood hunger is just intolerable. These are our children.”

Dr. Uday Jani, representing the Sunrise Rotary Club, urges supporters to supply backpacks full of food for the weekends for the children. This is what Harry K’s backpack program does. Jani was looking for supporters to supply five kids backpacks for a year, roughly $990. The response was great.
