Book tells story of medical cannabis patients

$2,420 Kickstarter campaign will help market and publish 100-page book ends March 17

In Delaware and beyond, cannabis continues to gain acceptance as a source of medicine. Yet, in many cases, the people who can’t survive without that medicine also use it in silence because of its stigma.

Author and publisher Susan Rosen-Latham is looking to remove the stigma with her yet-to-be-published book, “The many faces of Medical Cannabis.” Rosen-Latham and a collection of four other women have created a Kickstarter campaign of $2,420 to market and publish the book.

“This is a collection of stories written by real patients,” said Rosen-Latham, who lives in Pocomoke City, Md., but used to live in Dagsboro and Long Neck. “As a medical cannabis patient myself, I began to wonder if the topic was made more public, would people begin to see all the good coming from it.”

“The many faces of Medical Cannabis” would be the fourth book published by Invisible Publications, founded by Rosen-Latham in 2018. The other books have a similar mission – shining a light on diseases and disorders where patients suffer in silence. The previous books have been the real-life stories of people with fibromyalgia and myalgic encephalomyelitis/chronic fatigue syndrome.

Rosen-Latham, who has fibromyalgia, said people wouldn’t know she has the central nervous system disorder. These diseases and disorders aren’t immediately apparent when meeting someone, she said.

The capital campaign for the newest book is all or nothing, said Rosen-Latham, adding the money will go toward marketing and book creation. She said there are about 30 stories in the cannabis book, which will be about 100 pages with the biographies of the authors.

Rosen-Latham said if the fundraising campaign is successful, the book will be published in April.

Rosen-Latham said her experience with medical cannabis has been nothing short of a miracle.

“I was in excruciating pain, and I couldn’t do anything. I didn’t like pharmaceuticals because of the side effects, and I was worried about their addictive nature,” said Rosen-Latham. “Medical cannabis gave me my life back.”

The deadline for the campaign is Tuesday, March 17. For more information on “The many faces of Medical Cannabis” or to participate, go to www.invisiblepublications.com or email Rosen-Latham at invisiblepublications@gmail.com.
