Delaware Chiropractic Society seeks to modernize Medicare law
The Delaware Chiropractic Society and a group of chiropractic students gave a big thank you to U.S. Rep. Lisa Blunt Rochester, D-Del., for co-sponsoring H.R. 3654, the Chiropractic Medicare Coverage Modernization Act of 2019.
Dr. Jesse Riggin, president of the Delaware Chiropractic Society, and Jalen Harris, with Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, traveled to Washington, D.C., Jan. 30 to present the congresswoman with the DCS 2020 Patient Advocacy Award for her support of the resolution.
This bill is aimed at closing loopholes that discourage Medicare recipients from seeking chiropractic care. Society professionals hope that removing these barriers to care will aid in the fight against the opioid epidemic by offering another affordable option for pain relief to an at-risk population. This long-overdue change in archaic policy has bipartisan support in the House and is gaining traction in the Senate.
Society officers are working hard alongside their national counterparts to educate lawmakers, and they are listening. Representatives from the offices from Sen. Tom Carper and Sen. Chris Coons were receptive about H.R. 3654 and offered valuable information on how to push this bill to the next steps.
Thanks to the continued efforts of Blunt Rochester and her colleagues, Medicare recipients can hope to see this important change unfold in coming years.
