Local jazz trio 5th Avenue, formed by the late Ken Cicerale, will perform in the outdoor garden at Bluecoast on Route 1 in Rehoboth Beach from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, Aug. 21. The act features Vincent Varrassi on piano and vocals, Jeff Cooper on bass and Ken Schleifer on drums. 5th Avenue performs intimate jazz and vocal standards of the Great American Songbook, as well as popular songs from later eras.
Joining them for the opening set Aug. 21 will be saxophonist Cody Leavel.
A scholarship fund was established in Cicerale’s name after his death last summer, and is maintained by the Delaware Community Foundation. The scholarship is designed to award two $500 scholarships per year to Sussex County high school graduates who plan to pursue college studies in jazz. The fund has nearly reached its goal of having the ability to continue in perpetuity, but donations are still needed. Donations can be made at www.delcf.org/donations/ken-cicerale-fund or by mail to The Delaware Community Foundation, 36 The Circle, Georgetown, DE 19947.
