President-Elect Joe Biden, a part-time resident of Rehoboth Beach, is no stranger in the Cape Region. Joe’s been sighted at scores of local establishments, whether he’s taking the family dog for a walk on Rehoboth Avenue or grabbing an ice cream cone on the Boardwalk. He’s also gracious when asked for the obligatory selfie.

Nancy Sakaduski emailed us about this photo, taken by Deny Howeth during a 2015 Democratic Jamboree at Cape Henlopen State Park. “My husband, Joe Sakaduski, told then-Vice President Biden that his mother had served on the Democratic committee for 70 years. Biden said, ‘Do you think she’s home? Let’s call her.’ He thanked her for her service and chatted a few minutes, while reporters asked who Biden was talking to. It was a 90-year-old woman who got the thrill of a lifetime. She died about six months later.”

Roy said ‘Sure!’ Joe signed it ‘Keep The Faith, Joe.’ Ironically, the Bidens bought a home in North Shores right around the corner from Roy’s home about 10 years after this meeting took place. Sadly, my good friend Roy died June 24, but I’m sure he’s delighted his neighbor will be the first president from Delaware!”
