Browseabout Books sales to benefit Read Aloud Dec. 14-20
Whether it’s the latest bestseller or a time-honored children’s classic, a new book is always a treasured holiday gift.
This holiday season, Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach and children’s literacy program Read Aloud Delaware are joining forces to support Read Aloud’s ongoing mission in Sussex County.
From Monday, Dec. 14, to Sunday, Dec. 20, 15 percent of sales at Browseabout Books will be donated to Read Aloud Delaware as part of the local bookstore’s holiday giving campaign. Customers must mention Read Aloud Delaware by name at checkout.
Read Aloud’s roving elves will visit Browseabout at various times throughout the week to share information about the program.
Founded in 1983, Read Aloud Delaware, has a mission to ensure that each preschool child in the state is regularly read to one-on-one.
Prior to COVID-19, nearly 250 volunteers read to children at approximately 40 Head Start locations, child care centers, preschools and kindergartens. During the pandemic, volunteers have been filming themselves reading stories, reading on Zoom, and using other technologies to stay connected with young readers.
Read Aloud Delaware also recently partnered with the LENA Start program to help parents and caregivers measure, improve and make the most of their verbal connections with young children through the use of current technologies.
Read Aloud Delaware joins five other local charities as beneficiaries of Browseabout’s holiday giving campaign. “Browseabout is proud to support a number of worthwhile charities this holiday season,” said new owner Susan Kehoe. “Keep your dollars in our community by shopping local and giving local.”
