John H. Bowen, loved fishing, boating

John H. Bowen, 92 of Millsboro, formerly of Wilmington, passed away peacefully at home Friday, Jan. 6, 2012.

He graduated from Milford High School in 1937. John retired from the Prudential Insurance Company in 1984. He was a C.L.U. and a member of the Million Dollar Roundtable and past member of the Brandywine Lions Club. His lifetime activities were fishing, boating and gardening.

John was a patriot who proudly served his country in the Army in the Asian and Indian theatre during World War II.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Stokes and Mary Lou Bowen of Milford; a brother, Charlie, and a sister, Margaret Snyder. John is survived by his wife Gloria "Gay" of 47 years; and a sister, Daisey Watson of Milford. He is also survived by two daughters, Linda Mullins of Elkton, Md., and Gena Evans of Millsboro; two grandsons; one granddaughter; two great-granddaughters and two great-grandsons.

A funeral service will be held at noon, Thursday, Jan. 12, at the Long Neck Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 32013 Long Neck Road, Millsboro, where friends and family may call after 11 a.m. Interment will follow at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Millsboro.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in John's name to Delaware Hospice, 100 Patriots Way, Milford, DE 19963.
