Lewes in Bloom list of plants available online
On the Lewes in Bloom website, there is a list of plants that names annuals Lewes in Bloom has planted throughout the city, by location. For the free list and information on membership and support, go to lewesinbloom.org.
Facebook group supports producers
Lauren Ruskey of Harrington has created a Facebook group called Keeping it Local - Supporting Delaware Agricultural Producers. The group provides a central location for producers to post their specials for the week and for consumers to be informed of where they can buy local produce.
Free soil test for corn growers
Sussex Conservation District is now offering free pre-sidedress soil nitrogen testing to corn growers in Sussex. A limited quantity of tests is available. To schedule a PSNT when plants are four to six inches in height or growth stage V2, call 302-856-3990, Ext. 3, or email Dan Holston at daniel.holston@de.nacdnet.net.
Indian River district updates curbside meal pickup
The Indian River School District is implementing a series of changes to its weekly curbside meal pickup service. Throughout May, curbside meal pickup is taking place at four locations every Wednesday from 3:30 to 5 p.m.
Meals are free of charge and available to all children 18 years and younger at the following bus parking lot locations only: Indian River High School, Long Neck Elementary, Millsboro Middle and North Georgetown Elementary.
Morning curbside meal distribution has been discontinued. The Indian River School District sites will now be providing four-day meal bags for students instead of five-day bags.
Millsboro residents graduate from East Stroudsburg
East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania held commencement ceremonies May 7-8.
Local graduates include Colin Garraway and Nicolette Gemignani, both of Millsboro.
Shred event in Rehoboth May 22
Safe, secure disposal of unwanted paper files and paper records will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Saturday, May 22, on site at Lutheran Church of Our Savior, 20276 Bay Vista Road, Rehoboth Beach. Limit is five file boxes per person or the bagged equivalent. There is no cost.
Yard sale at Greenwood VFW May 22
Greenwood Memorial VFW Auxiliary will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Saturday, May 22, at VFW Post 7478 on the corner of Mill Street and Governors Avenue in Greenwood. A table or space is $10 payable by cash only, due at setup at 7:30 a.m. For more information, call 302-883-4922. If it rains, the yard sale will be held inside the post home.
Italian-American Heritage Club to discuss travel May 24
The Italian-American Heritage Club of Sussex County will host a dinner meeting at 6 p.m., Monday, May 24, at Preshy's Restaurant, 18585 Coastal Highway, Midway Shopping Center, Rehoboth Beach. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. A three-course dinner will be served for $29 per person including a tip. Guest speaker Annette Nero Stellhorn of Accent On Travel will discuss travel during COVID-19, different styles of travel for those interested in visiting Italy, and some group offerings.
The meeting is for members only. Attendees can join at the door. Those who are Italian, or of Italian descent, and are interested in becoming a member, can email iahcscd2020@gmail.com to request a membership application.
