Looking to continue bringing high-quality food brands to downtown Rehoboth Beach, local businessman Riyad Omar has opened a shop for smoothie and juice chain Jamba.
Located in the same storefront as Auntie Anne’s, Cinnabon and Carvel, Jamba is a brand with over 850 locations worldwide.
“We did a lot of research on the subject and chose Jamba because we’re confident in their product,” said Omar, who owns and operates all four businesses. He also owns the Subway on the first block of Rehoboth Avenue. “It’s about bringing a product that helps our community.”
Omar said he wanted to open a smoothie and juice business because it fits in well with the location’s other offerings. People want to be able to choose healthy options, even if other folks they’re with want a treat, he said.
“Now, this is a place where customers can get it all,” said Omar.
The Jamba menu features a wide selection of frozen smoothies, juices and fruit bowls – classic and plant-based smoothies; super blends designed to help increase performance, boost immunity and increase energy; and bowls that can fill customers up without weighing them down. There are also vitamin and protein boosts. They can all be customized, too, said Omar.
Omar said having Jamba as an option with his other brands allows people to cheat on their healthy eating, while still also having a bit of good nutrition if wanted.
“Some people will think the pretzels or the ice cream have too many calories, so they’ll say, ‘You know what, I want a kale smoothie too,” said Omar. “It’s like ordering a big steak, but then getting a Diet Coke.”
In addition to adding Jamba, Omar said the location itself has been remodeled so everything has a clean, fresh feeling to it.
Omar acknowledges COVID-19 made things harder over the past year, but he said he never thought about not opening Jamba.
“It only makes me want to work harder. To not lay down and be defeated,” he said. “Yeah, we’re tired. But we’re going to stand back up.”
Jamba, 160 Rehoboth Ave., is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. during the week and 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. on the weekends. For more information, call 302-227-1999 or go to jamba.com.
“People get out of the clubs and they may want a snack,” said a smiling Omar about the late weekend hours.
