August 10, 2021

Richard M. Steiman, "Rich,” 75, of Lewes, previously of Wilmington, passed away Thursday, Aug. 5, 2021, at  Delaware Hospice Center in Milford after a long battle with cancer.  He was born July 4, 1946, in Boston, Mass., son of the late Wilbur G. and Natalie Steiman.

Rich attended Boston Latin School and graduated from Boston College with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in sociology. He then went on to achieve his master’s in urban studies from the University of Delaware. From 1975-96, he worked for the Delaware Department of Health and Human Services as the director of state service centers and assistant director in public health. In 1996, he went to work for Maximus Inc. as a project manager, from which he retired in 2018. He was also a partner in Bottle & Brew Selections LLC, a wholesale beverage distributor.

Rich was always active in the community, both in Wilmington and Lewes. He was on the board of the West End Neighborhood House, participated in Leadership Delaware, and he served on citizen advisory committees for both Brandywine School District in Wilmington and Cape Henlopen School District in Lewes, just to name a few of the associations that kept him busy. He also served on community HOAs in both Wilmington and Lewes .

In his spare time, one could find Rich watching any Boston sports teams, both college and professional, but especially his beloved Red Sox. He collected model trains of all sizes and enjoyed creating detailed layouts for them. Most of all, Rich loved spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons.

In addition to his parents, Rich was preceded in death by his in-laws: William H. Garner Sr. and I. Jane Garner of Laurel.  He is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Iantha Jane "Nan" Steiman of Lewes; his son, Marc A. Steiman and his wife Barbara of Lewes; his grandsons: Nathaniel "Nate" Steiman and Grayson Steiman, both of Lewes; his brother-in-law, William H.
