Congo mission trip presentation to be offered Oct. 3 in Lewes

Miriam’s Table founder to speak about ongoing work in Africa
September 18, 2021

Susie Keefer has been traveling to Congo on mission trips for 11 years. "After my first time in Congo in 2010, when I left, a piece of my heart remained," said Keefer.

She currently chairs the board of The Congo Partnership, a collaboration of the United Methodist Conference in Delaware and Southeast Pennsylvania with the United Methodist Conference in the Central Congo Episcopal Area. Keefer spent three weeks in Congo this past summer, visiting the mission she founded with her husband, Ed Keefer, and traveling from village to village to visit each of The Congo Partnership programs in two separate parts of the country.

Susie and Ed adopted a child from Congo in 2013, and in 2014, they founded Miriam's Table, a nutrition center named in honor of their adopted daughter, that currently feeds 350 children daily. Working with the Ministry of Health in Congo, they hope to build a healthcare center at the same location to provide much-needed medical care and a pharmacy.

Keefer will give a presentation about her recent trip at 5 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 3, at Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes. Pizza, salad and dessert will be served before the presentation, and a love offering will be taken. Attendees are asked to RSVP by Oct. 2 at bethellewes.org or by calling the church office at 302-645-9426. The event will follow current COVID restrictions for churches. The presentation will also be livestreamed through the Bethel website.
