Washington Master Chorale Chamber Singers concert to benefit Overfalls Dec. 5
Groome Church in Lewes will host the Washington Master Chorale Chamber Singers for a holiday concert to benefit the Overfalls Foundation at 6:30 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 5.
Led by Artistic Director Thomas Colohan, the Washington, D.C.-based choral group is nationally recognized for its commissioned choral works, vocal excellence and unique programing.
“In 1908, the crew of the (then) Overfalls light vessel 69 donated a spectacular stained-glass window to Groome, one of 17 illuminating the church’s interior. The window wonderfully illustrates an important part of Lewes’ Delaware Bay history,” said the Rev. Dr. Willard Crossan, Groome Church pastor. “When the opportunity arose for Groome to host the Master Chorale, our congregation quickly decided, during this season of celebration and giving, to use the concert to help support a project or activity that Lewes residents and visitors alike can enjoy; the Overfalls immediately came to mind! A hundred years on, Groome will be able in a tangible way to again say ‘thank you’ to the Overfalls for their gift that has visually enriched our lives for decades.”
This is the chorale’s first appearance in Delaware.
Groome Church is at 601 Savannah Road, Lewes.
