‘Chronicle of Racism in America’ screening set April 8

March 28, 2022

The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will screen “Who We Are: A Chronicle of Racism in America” at 6:30 p.m., Friday, April 8, at 30486 Lewes-Georgetown Highway, Lewes. The event is free and open to the public. Masks may be required.

After the film, a discussion will be held with Susan and Mac Goekler, co-chairs of UUSD’s Social and Environmental Justice Committee.

In the film, criminal defense and civil rights lawyer Jeffery Robinson interweaves lecture, personal anecdotes, interviews and shocking revelations to draw a stark timeline of anti-Black racism in the United States, from slavery to the modern myth of a post-racial America. Robinson shows how legalized discrimination and state-sanctioned brutality, murder, dispossession and disenfranchisement continued long after slavery ended, profoundly impeding Black Americans’ ability to create and accumulate wealth as well as to gain access to jobs, housing, education and healthcare.

Weaving heartbreak, humor, passion and rage, Robinson’s words lay bare an all-but-forgotten past, as well as current people’s shared responsibility to create a better country in their lifetimes.

UUSD is a welcoming and progressive spiritual community with a faith rooted in love and justice.
