Cape fell behind 5-0 and could not recover March 29, as the Vikings suffered an 11-6 Northern Division loss to Dover at Chris Short Field.
Dover outhit Cape 13-8 in the game.
The Vikings cut the deficit to 5-3, but the wheels fell off the pitching cart and Dover scored four in the fifth.
“We hit balls at people and they made some plays to keep us from getting back in it,” said Cape coach Ben Evick. “We were down 5-3 and felt good about coming back, but then we walked and hit more people, and allowed four more runs in the fifth.”
A bright spot for the Vikings was a two-run triple by Paris Mitchell, who then scored himself to cut the deficit to 5-3 in the fourth.
Cape’s Brian Fleming, Timmy Hitchcock, Issac Terhune, Josh Reinhold, Brenn Scott, Owen Daminger and Justin Marsh joined Mitchell with a hit apiece.
Hitchcock and Reinhold each garnered an RBI.
Nick Cox started on the mound for the Vikings and took the loss, giving up four runs while striking out six Dover batters. Barritt Ross, Mike Jarrell and Storm Carlisle came in from the bullpen.
Senior Cole Greene picked up the victory for the Senators.
The Vikings travel to Delmar Thursday, March 31, then return to Chris Short Field Saturday, April 2, to face Archbishop Spalding.
