William E. Miller Jr., loved to travel
William E. Miller Jr., 85, son of the late William E. Miller and Sarah Hester Morris Miller, was born May 15, 1936, in Lewes. He departed this life Saturday, March 26, 2022, at home surrounded by his wife Helen and son Michael.
Dicky, as he was so favorably called, received his early education at Nassau 198C School in Belltown. He then attended William C. Jason Comprehensive High School, where he graduated in 1954. He entered the U.S. Army for four years. He then returned to Delaware in 1958 and finished his Army time in Lewes Reserve Center for six more years. After leaving the Army, he worked various jobs for the City of Lewes, A.P. Croll Construction, and Ace Hardware for 25 years. In his early years, he attended Israel U. M. Church with his family.
Dicky met the love of his life, Helen Harmon, in Rehoboth Beach in 1958 while home on leave from the Army. They courted for two years. On July 1, 1960, Dicky married Helen Harmon and from that union, three children were born, Stephanie Elaine (deceased) William E. III (deceased), and Michael Miller Sr. Dicky and Helen shared 61 years of life filled with happy times and traveling. Dicky loved to travel to see his family in Arizona and Illinois to have fun. Dicky was a kind, good-hearted person. Family was very important to him. He worked hard to keep his family together and to stay together. He loved to cook and could never sit still; he was always outside messing, cutting grass, and sharpening the blades. He loved to work and help others.
After a short battle with leukemia, God called his name. He leaves to cherish his fond memories of his loving and devoted wife, Helen for 61 years; one son, Michael Miller Sr.; one sister, Mary Pascal; and adopted daughter, Gina Mifflin of Lewes; 10 grandchildren: Michael Miller Jr., Carlos, Marcus and Chris Pratt, Aileen, Jenny, Nancy, Sharon, Cierra, and Jordyn; 16 great-grandchildren; 31 nephews; 30 nieces; four brothers-in-law, Theodore Harmon (Juanita), Thomas Harmon, William “Billy” Harmon (Joetta), and Calvin Harmon; four sisters-in-law, Gloria Holland, Shirley Harrison, Patricia Harmon Edwards (Theodore), and Vivian Harmon; and a host of cousins and friends
He was preceded in death by his children, Stephanie Elaine Miller-Moulton and William E. “Nick” Miller III; parents; four sisters, Sylvia Henry (John), Dorothy Burton (Courtland), Edith Maull (Richard), and Marjorie Ricks (Wes).
