Bayhealth to sponsor Southern Delaware Heart Walk for 2022 and ‘23
Bayhealth, central and southern Delaware’s largest healthcare system, has agreed to serve as the Premier Signature Sponsor for the Southern Delaware Heart Walk in 2022 and 2023.
The 2022 Heart Walk will be held Sunday, Nov. 6, in Rehoboth Beach, and will support the American Heart Association and American Stroke Association, whose mission is to be a relentless force for a world of longer, healthier lives. All statewide COVID-19 guidelines will be followed.
The Southern Delaware Heart Walk is an opportunity for participants to walk in honor of those who suffer from heart disease, and to raise funds for the advancement of research initiatives and community education programs.
Heart disease is the nation's No. 1 cause of death, claiming nearly a million American lives a year, more than all forms of cancer combined. Stroke is the No. 5 cause of death in the United States and the No. 4 cause of death in Delaware, and the leading cause of long-term disability. However, the majority of cardiac events may be prevented with education and lifestyle changes.
The Heart Walk encourages Americans to make healthy choices including proper nutrition and adding physical activities, such as walking, to their daily routine.
Bayhealth’s Premier Signature Sponsorship is a significant $120,000, three-year commitment to the lifesaving mission of the American Heart Association. Bayhealth interventional cardiologist Dr. Roberto Scaffidi will serve as chair of the Southern Delaware Heart Walk 2022.
“For nearly 20 years, Bayhealth has helped the American Heart Association raise awareness and research funds aimed at preventing and treating heart disease and stroke,” said Scaffidi. “Bayhealth is deeply committed to supporting the communities in which our associates and patients live and work, and we are proud to grow our support of the American Heart Association in Delaware.”
The 2022 Southern Delaware Heart Walk will feature a 3.1-mile walk in Rehoboth Beach, important information on heart health and stroke prevention, sponsor resources and giveaways, healthy fruits and snacks, and entertainment.
