Village Volunteers group elects new board leaders
The Village Volunteers board of directors, whose men and women share time and skills that enable older adults to live independently at home for as long as possible, has appointed Steuart Martens of Rehoboth Beach as president, and Janet Davis of Lewes and Wilmington as vice president.
Martens, a nationally certified health and wellness coach, succeeds Bennett Connelly of Lewes as president. He has been a member of the Village board since 2019. Martens is passionate about helping people improve their health, well-being and fitness. In addition to his current work with individual clients and group workshops, he serves on the board of the Rehoboth Beach Boys & Girls Club, and as a consultant for Rylie’s Sunshine. He is also a certified facilitator for health workshops for the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services’ Division of Public Health.
Davis, a retired business executive, succeeds Ingrid Miller of Lewes as vice president. “My satisfaction comes from helping those groups whose mission it is to make positive and lasting contributions to the communities they serve,” she said. She enjoyed a career that included corporate finance at Sun Oil Co., raising awareness and funding with the Ladies Professional Golf Association and Ronald McDonald Houses; Winterthur Museum, Garden and Library; Delaware Museum of Natural History; and Delaware Community Foundation’s Fund for Women. She also worked in Lewes with the Overfalls Foundation and the Lewes Yacht Club Foundation, and other nonprofit projects. She has been involved with Village Volunteers for nine years, starting when she helped its founder Jackie Finer write the documents to secure its nonprofit IRS status.
