Orwen Lorenzo Morris, loved by many

Orwen Lorenzo Morris, 61, transitioned peacefully from earth to eternity at Coastal Hospice at The Lake, Salisbury, Md., June 18, 2022.  Orwen was born on Dec. 26, 1960, in Lewes, to Roxie V. Morris.

Orwen received his formal education in Worcester County Public Schools. He was a 1978 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School in Berlin, Md.  He was on the wrestling team, played football and was on the yearbook staff.

Orwen was employed with Racetrack Auto in Berlin, Md., as a tow truck driver until his illness.  Prior to that, he worked for D&D Construction in Bishopville, Md., Gander Hill Department of Corrections Prison in Smyrna as a dietary officer, and various jobs in Ocean City, Md., The English Diner, The Carousel, Bayside Skillet and Princess Royale.  He was a chef for 25 years.  

Orwen went on to study Tae Kwon Do with Master Sung Hung Parks in Salisbury, Md., and earned his black belt. He obtained the name “Bruce Leroy.”  Being Master Parks’ top student, Orwen was one of the first to open a school under the name of Parks Martial Arts, one in Berlin, and later another in Selbyville. He trained many students in Tae Kwon Do and Hapkido. His top student, Kirk Purnell, then took over the DoJo at the Selbyville location.  

Orwen last attended Family Enrichment and Deliverance Center under the leadership of Apostle Anthony Flowers and Pastor Ruth Flowers. Orwen was a caring, loving, funny and encouraging son, father, brother and friend.  He would always lend a helping hand and you could call on him whenever you needed assistance with your vehicle. He was loved by many and will be missed but not forgotten.

Orwen was preceded in death by his son, Brandon Morris; father, Morris Blake; and brother-in-law, Anthony Davis.

Orwen will be missed and leaves many memories of happy times by one son, O’Brien L. Morris of Millsboro; mother, Roxie V. Morris of Selbyville; four brothers, Robert Morris of Selbyville, Willard Morris (Chubby) of Delmar, Md., Maurice Blake (Yolanda) of Willards, Md., and Keith Morris of Selbyville; three sisters, Gloria Tingle of Selbyville, Marsheila Davis of Hephzibah, Ga., and Blossie Anita Morris-Hopkins (Preston) of Millsboro; one granddaughter, Bre’yanna Morris of Lewes; one grandson, O’Brien Morris Jr. of Lincoln; a special cousin whom he loved as his sister, Odessa Vicky Showell; and a special cousin, Horace Showell, who was more like a brother; a special friend, Rosalee Bull; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.  

The service to celebrate Orwen’s life will be held Sunday, June 26, at St. John 2nd Baptist Church, 26602 Mt. Joy Road, Millsboro, with a viewing from 12:30 to 2 p.m. and the service commencing at 2 p.m. Masks are required to be worn.
