Cape 2020 graduate Abbey Hearn brought her basketball skills and knowledge to Milton Elementary School Aug. 2-3 for the OutTrain Hoops Camp.
The camp ran from 9 a.m. to noon, as seven future hoops stars from 10-14 years old worked on training and skills development. Players learned the proper techniques for shooting, dribbling, passing, rebounding, and offensive and defensive strategies in a competitive but fun environment.
Hearn scored more than 1,000 points during her high school career and was voted to the all-state team. She was a member of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference East champion Kutztown University Golden Bears, and earned the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Rookie of the Year Award in 2022. Kutztown made an appearance in the Division II NCAA tournament. Hearn is presently a sports management major.
Coaching with Hearn was Tom Neugebauer, who played four years at St. Vincent College in Latrobe, Pa., and received his master’s degree in sports management from St. Thomas University in Miami, Fla. He is an active sports performance coach.
“We had a great group of girls who were eager to learn and compete,” said Hearn. “I think everyone, including the coaches, had a lot of fun. I really enjoyed being able to get to know all of the girls and see them improve over the course of the two days.”
