The Southern Delaware Chorale announced its performance schedule for the 2022-23 season.
Under the baton of Artistic Director Dr. Colin Armstrong and Assistant Conductor Sarah Rose, the chorale will perform Classic Holiday Favorites at 3 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 4, at Epworth United Methodist Church in Rehoboth Beach. The program will feature familiar holiday songs and audience sing-alongs.
A nonprofit fixture in the region’s arts scene for almost 40 years, the chorale was initially founded to perform Handel’s “Messiah.” The ensemble has grown to its current form, presenting three concerts every season. The choir has performed a wide variety of music, from spirituals to Broadway to classical to jazz, and has collaborated with the Mid-Atlantic Symphony Orchestra, the Carter Legacy Singers and more.
In February, the Southern Delaware Chorale will host its inaugural Black History Month Choral Festival at 2 p.m., Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 25 and 26, at the Cape Henlopen High School auditorium in Lewes. Multiple choirs will be participating, singing an array of music to celebrate the month.
A Spring Bouquet is set for 3 p.m., Sunday, April 30, at Epworth UMC. This concert will feature Schubert’s popular “Mass in G,” as well as light spring music to welcome the season. Tickets for all concerts can be purchased online at southerndelawarechorale.org or at the door.
The choir is looking for more singers to complement its rich sound. All sopranos, altos, tenors and basses are welcome to join. There is no formal audition, just a voice placement. The group rehearses weekly from 6:50 to 9 p.m., every Tuesday, at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, 122 East Pine St., Georgetown. Member dues are $60 a semester or $100 a year.
