Louis E. Davis, Georgetown icon
Louis E. Davis, 88, beloved husband, father, grandfather and Georgetown icon, passed away peacefully Monday, Sept. 19, 2022, at home surrounded by his family.
Louis was born in the hills of Western Maryland to Chester and Mildred (Briggs) Davis. He would go on to become a master carpenter by trade, having built many homes around Sussex County.
In his early 20s, Louis met Patricia Rust at a dance in Ocean City, Md. They fell in love and were married soon after. Within a year, they would start a family, complete with three children, Chester, Penny and Jamie. They would stay married for the next 66 years until his passing.
In addition to his wife and three children, Louis is survived by four grandchildren, his pride and joy, Reilly, Madison, Kingston and Grayson. He loved the time he was able to spend with them, and they cherished every moment with their Pop-pop.
Lou was an active member of the Georgetown Fire Company for 54 years. He was awarded the honor of fire chief emeritus, the highest honor bestowed to any firefighter. He was a trailblazer in the history of fire service in Delaware. He inspired, taught, and became a role model for every fire chief past and present.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 25, at Short Funeral Services chapel, 609 E. Market St., Georgetown. A time of visitation for family and friends will begin at 11:30 a.m. Interment with fireman’s honors will immediately follow at McColley’s Chapel Cemetery in Redden.
