Local Peace Week events begin Oct. 7 at UUSD church

The Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware will host three events in connection with Peace Week Delaware 2022 at the church located at 30486 Lewes Georgetown Highway, west of Lewes. All events are free and open to the public.

UUSD will screen “Suppressed and Sabotaged -The Fight to Vote” at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7. The film includes perspectives from voters in Arizona, Florida, Texas and Georgia that highlight how new laws will affect their constitutional right to vote. The screening will be an in-person event at UUSD. A question-and-answer session and discussion will follow the film. Register for the screening at eventbrite.com/e/419327278177.

A forum on Gun Violence - What Can We Do will take place in person at 7 p.m., Friday, Oct. 14, at UUSD featuring people who have had with personal experience with gun violence. Panelists will include the Rev. Dr. Vicki Gordy-Stith, lead pastor at Epworth United Methodist Church, and Traci Manza Murphy, executive director of the Delaware Coalition Against Gun Violence. The third event, An Open Heart to the World Metta Meditation, will be offered at 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 9, by the Rev. Sue Greer, a practicing Tibetan Buddhist who has taught and guided healing practices for more than 30 years. Metta meditation helps people allow feelings of peace to enter them and then be broadcast into a hurting world.
