Sussex Academy welcomes new head baseball coach

Sussex Academy Athletics has announced Doug Nowell as the school’s new head baseball coach.

"We are extremely excited to welcome coach Nowell to Sussex Academy," said Matthew Keen, Sussex Academy athletic director. "Doug brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to our school’s programs, and his proven track record of making the most of his opportunities impressed the search committee. Doug will bring the community together both on and off the field in his efforts to further enhance the success of the Sussex Academy baseball program."

Nowell’s resume is filled with baseball successes throughout Delaware. In four years as head coach at Salesianum, his teams reached the state semifinals three years and went on to win the state championship in 2008.

Sussex Academy is a public charter, tuition-free school offering an accelerated academic program for Delaware students in grades kindergarten through 12. The elementary program is based on high academic expectations and a hands-on, integrated approach to learning. The secondary academic programs follow an instructional model that uses the successes of past best practices in interdisciplinary curriculum along with project-based learning in the middle school grades and Advanced Placement courses for high school.
